Gift of Anna Eglitis, 2008.
This collaborative print was realised through the aspirations of Anna Eglitis and Arone Meeks the organisers of the exhibition 'On the Edge.' Both wished to unify the artists' involved by examining 'diversity' yet representing the universal bonds that lie between artists living in the region. Each artist worked blindly on his or her work to symbolise an aspect of the local tropical coastline.
The medium of the linocut was a logical choice given the artists' experience in the area of printmaking, the challenge however was to produce works not only being unaware of their neighbouring artist and thus style but also as a vertical work bearing in mind that the finished piece was going to be printed as a horizontal depicting the coastline of Cape York laying on its side.
The twelve artists involved, from left to right was Sasi Victoire, Elanie Lampton, Rosella Namok, Arone Meeks, Ian Horn, Joey Laifoo, Anna Eglitis, Alick Tipoti, Ceferino Sabatino, Zane Saunders, Dennis Nona and Brian Robinson. All of which managed to, in their randomness share a commonality within the unique tropical environment and representing aspects of their identity within it. Resulting in the synergies that randomly cause us to cross paths in our inter-reliant lives.
