The Gallery is committed to working with local artists to extend their art practice in new directions. The new Works on Paper initiative has now expanded to include original paintings, prints and drawings on paper by local artists from Far North Queensland.
The current Works on Paper display present paintings on paper by Ethel Thomas, Amy Loogatha and Dolly Loogatha who are of Dulkawalne descent and grew up on Bentink Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Mornington Island Art Centre, established in 2005, is a flourishing art centre located in the Gulf of Carpentaria that works with a number of artist heavily influenced and connected to the land and culture to make strong contemporary and Aboriginal artworks. The energy and activity within the centre results in work characterised by a vivid colourful palette as well as semi-abstract and abstract lines, shapes and forms.
Joyful, colourful, and affordably priced, these original paintings on paper from Mornington Island artists will be on display until Christmas and can be purchased through the Gallery Shop.
