2021 FNQ Contemporaries is an exhibition that has been initiated to support the new Cairns Art Gallery Artists Fellowship Program which is proudly supported by the Cairns RSL Club.
In partnership with the Cairns RSL Club the Cairns Art Gallery is offering six Fellowships of $7,500 each that will provide financial support for the artists to develop a new body of work for a solo exhibition at the Gallery. Three Fellowships will be awarded in 2021 and three in 2022.
The Fellowships are open to creative practitioners from all art, craft and design disciplines, at any stage of their career development. Artists must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident living in the region served by the Cairns Art Gallery (from Cardwell in the south, west to Normanton and Mornington Island and north to the Torres Strait Islands).
Fifteen artists were shortlisted for the 2021 Fellowships from over 100 submissions by the judging panel comprising of Janina Harding, Artistic Director, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair; José Da Silva, Director, UNSW Galleries; and Andrea May Churcher, Director, Cairns Art Gallery.
The 2021 FNQ Contemporaries exhibition presents work by the shortlisted artists. The three artists to receive the 2021 Fellowships are Janet Fieldhouse, Mahar Gorospe-Lockie and Francesca Rosa.
