Clay on Country Ceramic Demonstration with artists Judith Pungarta Inkamala and Hayley Panangka Coulthard from Hermannsburg Potters

Join Judith Pungarta Inkamala and Hayley Panangka Coulthard, Western Aranda Artists from the renowned Hermannsburg Potters for an afternoon of art. This workshop is a rare opportunity to hear Hayley and Judith discuss their work and observe the artists working with clay and underglaze paint to create their unique pieces.

The Hermannsburg Potters are a dedicated group of Western Aranda artists creating instantly recognisable, ceramic pots which tell visual histories while speaking to their cultural beliefs, traditions and values.  The artists currently practicing are continuing a 30-year legacy of painting and sculpting at the centre.

Hermannsburg Potters’ artists have collaborated to create a large pot and accompanying animation in the current exhibition Clay on CountryThe large-scale ceramic work and animation tells stories surrounding weather and seasons on Western Aranda Country and provides a glimpse into the artists’ profound knowledge of and connection to Country as they depict Western Aranda life and landscapes during eturna (hot season) and lhurrpa (cold season).

1.00pm – Join the artists and Hermannsburg Co-manager, Ness Sim in the Gallery Space to view the exhibition Clay on Country, including the ceramic and animation work.

1.20pm – Join the artists and Ness in the education room for light refreshments before a practical demonstration and the opportunity sit and share stories with the artists while they demonstrate their work and learn more about the ceramic and animation work on display
