On Saturday 16 February the Cairns Art Gallery invites you to participate in a program of free creative activities to celebrate its new exhibition program, which includes fashion textiles by iconic Australian fashion designer, Linda Jackson; rarely seen prints by internationally acclaimed British artist, David Hockney; and Fashioning Black Identity which presents contemporary portraits and fashion photographs by artists from Africa and the African ¡Jackson will meet and talk with visitors about the tropical inspirations for her famous fashion
All day – A creative drop in centre has been set up where children and adults can sit, imagine and create their own stencils and artworks inspired by Linda’s exotic designs. A separate drop in centre for kids has been set up as part of the Queensland Art Gallery|Gallery of Modern Art’s Asia Pacific Triennial Kids On Tour activity program. Both creative spaces will operate during Gallery hours until mid-April. Bookings are not required, however children must be accompanied by an adult.
1.00pm – 2.30pm – Linda Jackson will meet and talk with visitors about the tropical inspirations for her famous fashion designs in the free Design Activity Space
2.30pm – Linda Jackson will give a free public talk about her extensive travels around the world and how the places and people she met on these travels provided the inspiration for her famous textiles and designs.
3.00pm – 4.00pm Linda Jackson will be available to sign copies of her recently published children’s book, Rainbow Menagerie, which is a vibrant introduction to native Australian animals and a celebration of the rainbow.
