The Cairns Art Gallery Foundation Board invites you to an exclusive preview event to celebrate the opening of Sally Gabori, a solo exhibition which features the Cairns Art Gallery’s latest Collection purchase; Dibirdibi Country 2009.
Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori was a celebrated senior Kaiadilt artist who was born on Bentinck Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria prior to the arrival of missionaries in the region. Gabori began painting at age 80 in 2005 and was known for the depictions of her beloved Country on Bentinck.
Cairns Art Gallery is thrilled to add Dibirdibi Country 2009, a stunning work by this important Australian artist to the Permanent Collection, a legacy for future generations, made possible by the generosity of the Cairns Art Gallery Foundation.
Guests are invited to enjoy drinks and canapes before being amongst the first to view the major exhibition Mundamurra Ngijinda Dulk – My Island Home which features five highly significant works from Queensland Art Gallery alongside works from Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts and Townsville Art Gallery.
