Artist Talk - Maria Fernanda Cardoso: Spiders of Paradise

Join artist Maria Fernanda Cardoso to learn more about the artistic process behind her incredible exhibition Spiders of Paradise. With limited places available, don't miss your opportunity to join Maria Fernanda for a walk-through presentation of her stunning photographic series and video.

This MCA touring exhibition features images of various species of the Australian Maratus spider, which, despite being less than 5mm in size, have been enlarged by 260 times in photographic portraits so that their incredible details and courting rituals can be appreciated.

María Fernanda Cardoso has been working innovatively with animals and the natural world for almost four decades. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Cardosa’s artistic focus and passion spurred from exploring the lush wetlands in her childhood. Since 1997, Cardoso is been based in Sydney, Australia. She has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally and represented Colombia at the Venice Biennale in 2003.

Exhibition developed and toured by the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body. This project is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
