This hands-on sculpture workshop is inspired by the diverse material approaches of the Flying Arts Alliance, Queensland Regional Arts Awards 2025 winners. Drawing on Rigley’s focus on fragility, everyday moments, and acts of remembering, and inspired by the QRAA theme of momentum — with its exploration of landscape, environmental storytelling, and material transformation — this workshop invites both beginners and experienced creatives to slow down, look closely, and create meaning through touch and material imagination. You’ll be guided to create a layered, folded sculptural object inspired by the material language of the reference piece. Using paper, thread, and repeated gestures, you’ll explore ideas of memory, accumulation, and the traces held within everyday materials.
During this workshop, you will:
• Experiment with folding, pleating, stitching, tearing, binding, and layering paper
• Explore how repetition can generate sculptural form
• Understand how simple materials (paper + thread) can express memory, tension, or emotional resonance
• Create one resolved, tactile, hand-held sculptural form
• Reflect on how labour and process leave visible traces
Sat 2 May 2026, 10.00am - 2.30pm in the Court House Building
