Have you ever wanted to create and wear your very own custom-designed T-shirt?
Join acclaimed Cairns-based contemporary screen printer and visual artist Samuel Tupou for this exciting two-part workshop and discover the art of silkscreen printing.
Also known as screen printing or serigraphy, silkscreen printing is a creative process that involves pushing ink through a finely stretched mesh screen to create bold, vibrant designs on fabric. Used by artists such as Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg, this versatile technique has influenced art, design, and industry for decades.
Over two workshops across two weeks, students will be introduced to the screen-printing process through a live demonstration using a pre-made design. Participants will then create their own unique artwork, which Sam will professionally prepare and transfer onto silkscreens in his studio.
In the second session, students will print their designs onto a high-quality AS Colour T-shirt and learn how to heat-set fabric inks, taking home a wearable artwork that's entirely their own.
All materials are provided, including an AS Colour T-shirt to keep.
No experience necessary! Simply bring along a few ideas for your design and plenty of enthusiasm to learn this exciting printmaking technique.
