Colours Come Alive: Drawing on Black with Kat Levchenko

In this three-week series, you’ll explore the magic of drawing on black paper — a medium that flips our usual way of seeing. Instead of drawing shadows, you’ll begin in the dark and work by drawing light, determining form and colour.

Each session will focus on a different theme: from studying light and simple shapes, to landscapes with mood and depth, to colourful florals and expressive landscapes. You’ll develop confidence with coloured pencils, learn to use contrast and layering to create impact, and most of all, enjoy a relaxed, creative space to explore something new.

This course runs for 3 weeks and you will learn:
Lesson 1: Light on black — exploring highlights, contrast, and simple forms
Lesson 2: Landscape & mood — atmospheric drawing with simple street perspective
Lesson 3: Flowers in colour — focus on flowers with coloured pencils on black paper

Each lesson builds on the previous one and introduces both technical and expressive approaches to drawing on black paper.
