School holidays are abuzz with excitement and creativity. Each holiday period Cairns Art Gallery offers a dynamic program of specialised art workshops to inspire kids aged 4 – 14 years. All workshops are facilitated by experienced artist/teachers who are dedicated to ensuring your child has an enjoyable and satisfying creative experience. Each holidays bring new and imaginative ideas, and every artist takes home a stylish creation to be proud of!

All materials are provided and students can be dropped off to enjoy the classes under the supervision of our qualified teachers.

Block Printing with Jamie Lee Simpson, ages 4-9

Using up-cycled cardboard and foamboard, students will create their own printing block design which will be used to create a patterned artwork. Block printing introduces patterning and repetition, which can be used across various art forms.

Mythical Creatures in Ink with Jamie Lee Simpson, ages 4-9

Go with the flow in this art workshop with Jamie Lee Simpson and draw your dream mythical creature using flowing ink. Whether you choose a unicorn, a dragon, or something completely made up from your own imagination, this workshop will help you learn the basics of shape, space and proportion.

Still Life Drawing in Graphite with Keelie Nicholls, ages 4-9

Create sketches in graphite crayon as you learn art skills such as the use of positive and negative spaces, capturing shapes, proportion, shading and light to create a still-life drawing. Still-life drawing helps develop observational skills and trains little artists to capture details in their art.

Portraiture and Proportions with Keelie Nicholls, ages 9-14

Work on your portraiture and observational skills as you capture a self portrait in oil pastel. Experienced tutor and artist Keelie Nicholls with guide the class through the skills required to accurately represent proportions, size and spacing of features to further your artistic judgement. These skills can be used to inform realistic drawings, or to push the boundaries for simplified caricatures.
