Art shapes cities. It inspires, challenges, and leaves a legacy that lasts for generations.
As the Cairns Art Gallery Foundation marks its 25th anniversary, we are inviting a select group of benefactors to play a direct role in shaping the region’s cultural future. You have the opportunity to contribute to the acquisition of significant works by leading artists.
Through our Give & Commit Legacy Collection Fundraising Campaign we are ensuring that world-class art remains at the heart of Cairns.
One of the first acquisitions under this campaign will be a highly significant painting by Sally Gabori (c. 1924–2015), an internationally renowned artist from Mornington Island. This acquisition will ensure that nationally significant works from the region will become a part of the Permanent Collection as a legacy for future generations.

For 25 years, the Cairns Art Gallery Foundation has played a vital role in shaping the cultural legacy of our region by raising funds for the acquisition of significant artworks for the Gallery’s renowned Permanent Collection.
Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed to the acquisition of 79 works by 28 artists, enriching the Gallery’s holdings of Australian and Indigenous art. These acquisitions reflect the unique heritage, cultural diversity, and evolving artistic landscape of Far North Queensland.
Your contribution also strengthens Cairns’ economy, creates jobs, and supports cultural tourism.
The arts and culture sector plays a vital role in our city's identity, liveability, and economic future.
Arts experiences are an increasingly important part of visitor itineraries across Australia. Cairns is well positioned to meet that growing interest. Strong cultural offerings encourage longer stays, support local businesses, and add depth to the visitor experience.
Recognising the city’s capacity for a world-class arts precinct, there is a growing focus on strengthening the connection between Cairns Art Gallery, the Courthouse Gallery, and the Mulgrave Gallery.
